Do = The Way

A Japanese art of self-preservation as a basis for physical and spiritual development of mind and body,

created by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) an exceptional Japanese martial artist and swordsman.

Aikido relies on body movements, timing and awareness. Aikido is a martial art which harmonizes flowing movements, dynamic throwing techniques and weapons training. Most of the techniques are preformed if necessary in a circular techniques with ends up in joint locks, throws, submission techniques or take downs.
Aikido has its roots built on the Samurai techniques or drawing and cutting of the Samurai Sword.
Aikido helps students to develop a very strong center from which to project out good 'Ki' or power.
To Succeed in Aikido will depend mostly on your own hard work and dedication.

Here are the fundamental things you should know about Aikido:
Aikido is not a sport but a martial art - a true Budo.
It is an art to develop the mind, spirit and body in order that you become an integral part of the universe.
It is an art of love and protection.
It is not an art of destruction or conflict and this is one reason why there is no competition in traditional Aikido. It is an art where one strives to be without ego.
Have an open heart and mind when you practice. Do not test strength, because that is not Aikido.
There are no trophies to win, no medals, no awards, no coloured belts and no pat on the back. It is only by hard work that you may come to understand the wonders of Aikido.

Do not forget, Aikido is a Martial Art of devastating power and therefore must not be misused.
